Dear Prospective Volunteer,
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Camp Erin ®. Dates for this year’s camp will be July 14-16, 2017 to be held at Camp Wooten just outside Dayton, Washington. We believe Camp Erin can make a difference in the lives of children who are grieving the death of someone close. We hope you will bring your strengths, talents, ideas and enthusiasm to help us plan and host camp. We know that you will be rewarded in many ways for spending the weekend with children who are trying to make sense of their experience and need some reassurance (and tools) to help them get through some difficult times.
Many of our volunteers have had a personal experience that motivates them to come to camp. Others get involved, because a friend or family member recommended our program to them. Whatever your reasons for joining, please know our volunteers are key to the camp’s success.
If you have a background in the clinical or therapeutic fields, you might want to consider helping to develop or facilitating a grief activity at camp with other members of the committee to which you will be assigned. If you have another background, don’t worry! We will train you on how to work with children grappling with bereavement issues. Camp is meant to be fun too, so you may want to consider the Cabin Big Buddy role, organizing games, helping with music or even being a kitchen helper. No matter what your preference or experience, you will have plenty of interaction with the kids. The primary qualification in being a Camp Erin volunteer is coming to serve with a willingness to pitch in wherever there is a need, joining an outstanding team of volunteers to create a safe, meaningful weekend experience for our campers. Every volunteer role is an essential, vital piece that makes this possible.
To apply, fill out the application below
Two references are required as part of the application process. Once we have spoken to your references, you will receive a phone call to schedule an appointment with the Camp Director who will meet with potential volunteers to determine the skills and talents available for the various assignments (committees, Big Buddies, recreation, etc.). That will give us a chance to find out more about you, to learn how you would like to participate in camp, and to answer any questions you may have. Serving as a volunteer is also contingent upon participation in the required training and passing a criminal background which will be initiated at the time of the required volunteer training.
You should expect to hear back from us once the application process is complete. We look forward to having you join us on the journey, “because no child should grieve alone.”
